A New Protection: Key Replacement

The Lexus Tires & Wheels Protection plan now
covers high-tech key fobs.

For drivers contemplating their next Lexus vehicle, here’s a good thing to know about the optional protection plans offered by Lexus Financial Services (LFS). Starting in later 2017, LFS is offering optional Key Replacement Protection, which helps alleviate the potential financial impact of lost, stolen, or damaged keys.

A Lexus SmartAccess* key fob, for example, is an extremely sophisticated device: it contains hardware that vehicle-based sensors can detect, which allows you to lock and unlock your vehicle doors—as well as start the push-button ignition—without having to remove your keys from your pocket or purse.

This kind of advanced technology makes the key fobs rather valuable, which is why Key Replacement Protection covers key-fob replacement for up to $800 per occurrence if the fob gets lost, damaged, or stolen.

And coverage doesn’t end there. It also includes lockout assistance; up to $100 per occurrence in towing costs; and up to $75 per occurrence for taxi/rental vehicle/public transportation reimbursement. There’s even a replacement benefit for additional nonprogrammable keys: up to $250 per covered key claim for a total of up to three occurrences. (Note that coverage exclusions may apply.)*

Key Replacement Protection is actually an enhancement to your Tire & Wheel Protection options, so here’s a quick refresher on the latter.

Available for six years, the Tire & Wheel Protection Platinum plan will replace your tire if it becomes damaged by eligible road hazards such as nails, broken glass, tree limbs, or a pothole.* Also, if your wheel fails to hold a seal with your new tire, LFS will replace it. There’s no limit to the number of covered claims, as coverage for replaced tires continues during the term of the agreement as long as they meet your vehicle manufacturer’s size specification. The plan also covers damage resulting from operational or structural failure due to a defect in material or workmanship.

Finally, there’s also the Tire & Wheel Protection Platinum Plus option*, which includes all the Platinum benefits, plus Paintless Dent Repair and Windshield Repair.

Paintless Dent Repair covers the permanent removal of minor exterior dents and dings up to four inches in diameter* (for the life of the agreement), and Windshield Repair covers the restoration of minor chips and cracks up to six inches for the life of the agreement.* Bonus: Both Paintless Dent Repair and Windshield Repair can be performed at your home, work, or local Lexus dealership.

Please note that all these protections are available only in a participating Lexus dealership at the time of financing for the purchase or lease of a new, L/Certified, or used vehicle.
